Man, 23, wounded in Fresno apartment shooting

A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times in the parking lot of an east-central Fresno apartment complex early Monday morning, Fresno police said.

Officers were called to the 4800 block of East Vassar Avenue just before 2 a.m. for a shooting victim. When they arrived, police found the man, who is an admitted gang member, inside an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

The victim was in the parking lot of the apartment complex when shots were fired, said Lt. Joe Gomez. He ran into an apartment for shelter. The man, who was not identified, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he immediately went into surgery.

The suspect is described as a black man who fled the scene in a light blue BMW or Honda SUV hatchback.
