Officers shoot after suspect rams law enforcement cars in Earlimart
A stolen vehicle investigation in Earlimart on Monday morning led to an officer-involved shooting that wounded one suspect.
That suspect, who was not named, allegedly used a stolen burgundy Suburban to ram into multiple law enforcement vehicles just after 9 a.m. in the area of Armstrong Avenue and State Street.
"From that, shots were fired," said California Highway Patrol Capt. Rob Krider.
The driver was shot at least once, Krider said. He was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at an area hospital. Another suspect – a passenger in the Suburban who also was not named – was arrested.
Krider said officers with CHP and the Tulare County Sheriff's Office, part of the Tulare County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, both fired shots. The suspects did not shoot.
Krider said the suspects, who drove "very erratically" and put multiple people in danger, were expected to receive multiple charges related to auto theft and assault.
The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Porterville Police Department.
