Mississippi murder suspects sleeping outside southeast Fresno gym now in custody
A man and a woman wanted in connection with a murder in Natchez, Mississippi, were arrested Tuesday night after police discovered them asleep outside the GB3 gym in southeast Fresno.
Isaac Garner, 28, and Cassandra Trahern, 26, were sought in the shooting of a man slain in late January in the Gulf Coast city, Garner for the shooting and Trahern as an accessory.
Fresno police Sgt. Ron Manning said officers were called to a shopping center at Fowler Avenue and Kings Canyon Road by a passerby, who thought it suspicious that two people were sleeping in a car where gym members park. Officer Victor Mercado said the two appeared nervous and answered his questions with false information. Police dispatch told him the car belonged to a wanted homicide suspect from Mississippi.
According to the Natchez Democrat, the two are sought in the death of Johnny Martin, 48, who was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest in a front yard on Jan. 26. Two other suspects are in jail in Adams County, Mississippi, in connection with the shooting.
Both Garner and Trahern were being held for extradition by U.S. Marshals.
