Man arrested for allegedly fleeing DUI crash in Porterville

A Terra Bella resident was arrested Friday after he allegedly struck a vehicle and fled the scene while intoxicated, Porterville police said in a news release.

Officers went to Villa Street and Vine Avenue at 8:24 a.m. after reports of a hit-and-run collision that happened on Indiana Street and Devon Avenue.

The driver was proceeding north on Indiana Street, about to make a left turn onto Devon Avenue, when his vehicle was stuck from behind by a vehicle driven by Jaime Ambriz, 38, police said.

Ambriz fled the scene in his vehicle before fleeing on feet near Villa Street and Vine Avenue, where he was arrested. Police said, “Ambriz displayed objective signs and symptoms of intoxication and he was determined to have been driving while intoxicated at the time of (the) collision.”

The other driver suffered minor injures and Ambriz was arrested without further incident.
