Sheriff’s detectives search for car possibly involved in homicide

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a car that may be connected to the fatal shooting of a homeless man in Orange Cove.

The vehicle is described as a white 2014 or 2015 Kia Optima with four doors, black rims and tinted windows and was captured on video driving through the area where the shooting took place.

The shooting happened in the early afternoon of Dec. 6 on H Street, between Anchor Avenue and 12th Street. Orange Cove police officers were called to the scene after reports of multiple shots fired. Officers arrived and found Pedro Mantancillas, 40, lying on the sidewalk on H Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Orange Cove Police requested that sheriff’s homicide detectives take over the ongoing investigation. A motive for the shooting is still unknown.
