These bomb teams were kept busy disarming two devices at separate Fresno locations.

Two explosive devices in separate locations were disarmed Tuesday afternoon in Fresno, authorities reported Wednesday.

Officials don’t have information to connect the discovery of an explosive device during a probation search near Shaw and Fruit avenues with another device found on westbound Highway 180 near Van Ness Avenue.

The discovery of the first device took place after police conducted a probation search at Fruit and Santa Ana Avenue on Tuesday morning. In a bedroom, officers found a segment of PVC pipe capped at both ends in a bedroom and called in a bomb team. Fresno police Lt. Mark Hudson said the device, which contained black powder, was “rendered safe” at the scene. Police arrested Adam Kausin, 38, who was booked on charges of possessing a destructive device.

About 1:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol, a Caltrans crew noticed a suspicious object, described as an “orange plastic container of accelerant attached to a white tube of gunpowder surrounded with a detonation cord fuse.” Explosives unit supervisors from Fresno police and the Fresno Sheriff’s office were summoned and the device was transported to a safe area for destruction, according to the CHP.

Westbound 180 was reopened at 2:38 p.m.

No one was arrested in the second incident. Fresno Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said that deputies also searched the Squaw Valley residence where Kausin lives, but nothing related to the incidents was recovered there.
