Bomb squad called out when suspicious device found during probation check
A police bomb squad was sent to a home near Shaw and Fruit avenues Tuesday morning after a suspecious device, possibly an explosive, was discovered during a probation search.
Officers arrested the probationer, identified as Adam Kausin, 38, in connection with the device, Lt. Mark Hudson reported.
The home where the item was found is at Santa Ana Avenue and Fruit, where officers went about 9:30 a.m. In one of the bedrooms, they noticed a piece of PVC pipe that was capped at both ends. The officers called for help from the department’s bomb unit, which is equiipped with a special truck and a robot.
Hudson said the explosives team had the ability to X-ray the device to determine whether it was dangerous. Then, they could decide how to render it safe, if necessary.
Hudson said he did not know whether Kausin has a history of making explosive devices.
