A 31-year-old man is in stable condition after being shot Saturday night in southwest Fresno, police Lt. Carl McKnight said.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m., McKnight said, and it does not appear to be random, Police officers responded to the 2300 block of South Attucks Avenue, near Edison High School, and found the victim inside his garage with at least three gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was initially taken in critical condition to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

McKnight added that gang activity is believed to be linked to the shooting. The victim, only described as a black man, was a “target of opportunity,” McKnight said.

At least two people are believed to have participated in the shooting, and one of the was armed with a handgun. McKnight said the assailants walked away east on Belgravia Avenue after the shooting.

The victim has had multiple contacts with police in the past, and he was uncooperative with officers in Saturday’s investigation, according to McKnight.
