Visalia man accused of leaving heroin in reach of children

A Visalia man was arrested Wednesday morning after officers found heroin that was allegedly within reach of children living in his home.

Gregory Paul Chavez, 55, was arrested after members of the Narcotics Unit and Special Enforcement Unit of the Visalia Police Department served a search warrant around 9 a.m. in the 600 block of N. Garden Street.

During the officer’s search they discovered one ounce of heroin, scales, and manufactured metal knuckles. Officers also believe Chavez was selling the heroin within 1,000 feet of a school.

Chaves was booked into the Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of child endangerment, possession of heroin for sale, possession of manufactured metal knuckles, and sales of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
