Porterville woman charged with infant’s murder
A Porterville woman is being charged with murder in the death of her nearly 6-month-old infant.
Angelica Castro, 20, had charges filed against her Thursday by Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward, in connection with the infant’s death Monday. She is facing one count of murder and one count of assault leading to a child’s death. Each count carries the possibility of 25-years-to-life in prison, if Castro is convicted.
Castro and the infant’s father took the baby, who was not breathing, to Sierra View Medical Center around 9 p.m. Monday, Porterville police said in a news release.
The baby was pronounced dead, and police said she suffered major injures. Castro was taken into custody afterward.
