Man shot by deputy after alleged robbery attempt in Hanford

A man shot by a deputy after allegedly attempting to rob a person outside a Hanford bank on Friday night was identified as Robert Perez, 40, of Selma, said Sgt. Justin Vallin with the Hanford Police Department.

Vallin said Perez was jailed after being treated for his injuries at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The location of the injury and its severity was not known Saturday afternoon.

The attempted robbery was reported about 8:45 p.m. outside a Chase Bank ATM machine at Douty and 10th streets. Vallin said authorities arrested Perez about three blocks away, hiding behind some large hedges on the 300 block of North Green Street. Vallin said a deputy with the Kings County Sheriff’s Office shot Perez after he jumped out from behind the bush pointing a weapon at authorities as he tried to run.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Office said the Kings County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting. The deputy involved in the shooting, who was not named, was not injured.
