Police: Fresno gang member arrested with gun
A Fresno gang member was arrested on multiple weapons charges Saturday after a traffic stop turned up a gun, police said.
Fresno police Sgt. James Fowler said that Jerry Sandoval, 43, is a Norteño gang member on probation. Sandoval is also a convicted felon prohibited from owning a gun.
Police found Sandoval with the gun during a traffic stop on a parked car in the area of East Illinois Avenue and North Thesta Street in central Fresno, Fowler said. Part of the serial number on the .22-caliber handgun was filed off, and Sandoval was arrested on suspicion of being a felon with a gun, possession of a weapon with an altered serial number, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and a probation violation.
Fowler said the Fresno Police Department’s Violent Crime Impact Team remains committed to arresting armed gang members in Fresno.
