Sanger police confiscated multiple firearms, including a Tommy gun-style semiautomatic carbine, while answering a call about a man undergoing a mental health crisis.

A police spokesman said the incident occurred Jan. 10. A caller told officers that the man was holding one of his rifles and contemplating suicide. The caller managed to take the weapon away and call for help.

Upon arriving, officers spoke to the man, who was distraught over a personal relationship. They determined that he was a danger to himself and others, and he was committed to a mental health facility for a 72-hour evaluation. The firearms were seized by officers.
