Police arrest two 18-year-olds in drive-by shooting at an elementary school
Two 18-year-old men have been arrested for allegedly opening fire on the parking lot at Roosevelt Elementary School in a drive-by shooting, Hanford police said.
Arrested were Hanford residents Nicholas Saldana and Anthony Alvarez. Saldana was arrested Tuesday walking out of a drug store on 11th Avenue, and Alvarez was arrested at a home the same day.
They face three counts of attempted murder, shooting on a school campus, shooting at a vehicle and gang involvement.
The gunfire erupted about 3:30 p.m. in the 800 block of West Davis Street.
Four cars in the school parking lot were struck. Arriving officers determined that there was no shooter on campus and a lockdown was lifted after about 15 minutes.
A group of male juveniles was walking by the school when a car drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. A wounded 14-year-old boy was taken to Adventist Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
Detectives and the Kings County Task Force serving search warrants seized the 2013 Honda allegedly used in the drive-by and found the gun.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Detective Jason Gustin at 559-585-4723.
