Man found dead on sidewalk is Orange Cove’s fifth homicide victim of the year

Fresno County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man in Orange Cove.

Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said Orange Cove police responding to a shooting on H Street between Anchor Avenue and 12th Street shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday found a dead man on the sidewalk. The Sheriff’s Office identified him Thursday as Pedro Mantancillas, 40, of Orange Cove.

Sheriff’s detectives are working the case, but a description of the suspect or suspects is unclear, Botti said. It’s unclear if the shots were fired from a car or by someone on foot. And a motive isn’t clear.

It’s the fifth homicide of the year in Orange Cove.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 559-600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
