Fresno woman pleads guilty to identity theft

A Fresno woman pleaded guilty Monday to mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.

U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced Marci Jessie Ramirez, 46, pleaded guilty after an investigation by the FBI and Clovis police. Between July 2013 and October 2015, Ramirez acquired and misappropriated personal identifying information, in some cases from client forms she accessed through her former employer, according to court documents.

The documents said she used the information to fraudulently open bank accounts, to obtain and deposit counterfeit or altered checks, and to withdraw cash or use funds from the deposits for personal purchases.

Documents also showed Ramirez also used other people’s credit card information to purchase personal items such as a $5,000 duo reverse transfer printer.

Ramirez is scheduled to be sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill on March 5, 2018.

She faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison for mail fraud and an additional mandatory two-year term in prison for aggravated identity theft, and a $250,000 fine.
