An armed felon on parole for a shooting was arrested late Wednesday night after he forced his way into an apartment in southwest Fresno, police reported.

Dion Fields is a violent member of a street gang, said Sgt. Alfonso Castillo. Officers pursued Fields after responding to a verbal disturbance and a police helicopter spotted him entering the apartment in the 300 block of North Modoc Street, near Highway 99 and Fink White Park.

Fields was taken into custody after police surrounded the apartment. Officers recovered a stolen .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. None of the occupants of the apartment were injured.
