Fresno police arrest man in October robbery
A man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of robbing an east central Fresno store at gunpoint three weeks ago, an incident that Fresno police said saw a clerk attacked with mace, knocked down and threatened with a weapon.
Bobby Ray Johnson III, 21, was booked into the Fresno County Jail after evidence and witness statements connected him to a robbery at a pipe smoke shop near Shaw and Maple avenues, Sgt. James Fowler said.
Two people walked into the store about 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23, Fowler said. They approached the cashier, appearing to want to make a purchase.
After the cashier opened the register, police said, he was attacked with mace.
The cashier was thrown to the ground, where both suspects repeatedly hit him. A weapon also was pointed at the cashier, but a police news release did not indicate if there were any injuries.
The suspects were able to get away with money and merchandise, Fowler said. Detectives continue to work on identifying a second suspect.
