Who are the robbers who killed a Madera County store clerk?
Madera County sheriff’s detectives are studying video evidence as they investigate a robbery and murder overnight at a gas station and mini-mart just outside Madera’s city limits.
Deputies believe a customer drove up during the crime and then sped away, and they want to talk with him.
The robbery took place shortly before 11 p.m. at Tackle Box, near Road 26 and La Brea Avenue, where the clerk was shot to death by one of the bandits.
Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Ward said two male suspects entered the store about 10:50 p.m. and took cash and two large boxes of cigarettes before firing several gunshots. The worker was killed by the gunfire.
Ward said one bandit was wearing a black jacket, gray pants and socks with no shoes. The second was wearing a black Reebock sweatshirt, black pants and black and white shoes. Both suspects covered their faces with bandanas and wore gloves. The shooter was armed with a silver-colored revolver.
Surveillance video shows a man in a white Acura drove up during the robbery, then backed up and sped off. The man may have seen the suspects’ vehicle. The witness and anyone else with information is asked to call deputies at 559-675-7770 or Crime Stoppers at 559-4988-7867.
