Teen found with gunshot to chest; police trying to learn who may have fired on him

An 18-year-old man was rushed to a hospital Monday afternoon in critical condition with a wound to the chest after a shooting in southeast Fresno.

The incident took place in the 4600 block of East Montecito Avenue just before 2 p.m., according to Lt. Mark Hudson.

The victim was in a bedroom by himself, according to witnesses, who were in another room in the house when they heard a gunshot. Police arrived to find the victim in the driveway of the home. Hudson said officers did not initially find the weapon.

Police are trying to determine whether the victim shot himself or was shot by someone else.
