A woman was injured and later died. Hours later, her boyfriend said he did it

A Fresno man is in jail after apparently telling police he was responsible for the death of his girlfriend, who died Friday after a domestic assault, police said.

The woman was found with trauma to her upper body at a home in the 4800 block of East Illinois Avenue in southeast Fresno, according to police. She died hours later at an area hospital. Her identity was not released.

Officers who went to the scene just before 4 p.m. later learned that Gabriel Salinas, 43, may have played a role in the woman’s injuries. After investigating throughout the night, Salinas admitted to the assault and was arrested at the scene before being charged with murder. He was booked into Fresno County Jail.

Police said the incident is Fresno’s sixth domestic violence incident that led to murder this year. It is also the city’s 49th murder in the year.
