Fresno police detectives Friday asked the public for help solving a brazen slaying in which the father of 11 was gunned down with an assault rifle and another man was wounded.

Ernie Gonzalez Jr., 39, was shot to death on July 5 while standing with two other people in the 2200 block of East Tyler Avenue, near Fresno Street and Belmont Avenue. The gunman opened fire while children and other bystanders were nearby. Gonzalez died after he was taken to a hospital. Shedrick Brown, 42, was struck in the head by a bullet but is recovering.

Sgt. Andre Benson said the shooter did not act alone and detectives have identified “persons of interest.” Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP or Benson at 559-906-9459.
