Fresno student brings loaded 9mm gun to campus, police say
A 16-year-old is in juvenile hall after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school in central Fresno on Thursday, said Sgt. Glen Schafer.
Staff at Ambassador Phillip V. Sanchez Charter School called police after hearing the student possibly had a gun. When officers arrived just before noon, they found a loaded 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun in the student’s backpack, said Schafer.
The gun was found to be stolen, and the student was booked into Fresno County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of possessing a stolen handgun on a school campus. The student was cooperative, Schafer said.
The student claimed no gang involvement and police don’t believe the weapon was brandished while on campus.
The charter school is an independent study program that offers career technical education and online classes.
