School locks down when man with knife and bottle of alcohol approaches

A Visalia elementary school was placed on lock down Wednesday morning after a man was spotted nearby carrying a knife and bottle of alcohol.

The incident was reported to police about 9:40 a.m., and the caller said the man was walking toward Annie R. Mitchell School, the Visalia Times-Delta reported.

A witness also saw the man walk into a backyard with several dogs.

Police made contact with the man and said he threatened to hurt himself.

Multiple police officers were on campus to address the situation.
