Rumors swirled of drug sales at this downtown hotel. Turns out, there was more
Fresno police officers said rumors of drug sales going on at a downtown Fresno hotel were put to rest Friday when a search warrant was issued and more than just drugs were found in a hotel room.
Downtown residents had reported to police that drugs were being sold out of The Hotel D’Italia, 1474 Fresno St., also known as “Jazzy’s” in the Chinatown area. For two months, the Downtown Fresno Police Unit investigated.
On Friday, 49-year-old Gabriel Hinojosa was arrested in his hotel room after officers with a search warrant found two ballistic vests, two guns, a 9mm handgun and a 12-gauge shotgun. The shotgun is stolen, according to police. Along with the weaponry, police found more than $3,000, 28 grams of heroin, 13 grams of methamphetamine and 56 grams of marijuana, plus six scales and packaging materials. Hinojosa, an East Fresno Bulldog Gang member, is suspected to be the drug dealer.
Another man, 34-year-old Jesus Osornio of Fresno, was also found in Hinojosa’s hotel room. Osornio was charged with violating his parole.
