After standoff with police that shut Tulare Avenue, Salinas man arrested

A murder suspect was involved in a standoff with Fresno Police on Tulare Avenue near First Street has been arrested.

Salvador Clemente was seen walking around East Tulare Avenue in southeast Fresno with what appeared to be a rifle late Saturday night, Fresno Police said. He also had an outstanding warrant from Monterey County for murder.

Officers said Clemente hid in the backyard of a home and refused to surrender. He was also seen pointing the rifle in the direction of officers surrounding the house. Officers closed Tulare Avenue from Second Street to Sixth Street.

After several hours of non-compliance with officers stretching into early Sunday morning, Clemente was taken into custody by SWAT members.
