One suspect jailed, one still sought in Caruthers jewelry store robbery

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has identified one of the suspects who allegedly stole more than $10,000 in jewelry from a Caruthers store in June, and is asking for the public’s help to catch him.

Two suspects reportedly entered Joyeria Krystal around 10:20 a.m., tied up a woman who was working while one of the suspects held her at gunpoint. The other suspect stole jewelry from display cases and cash from a safe. The men fled in a black Mercedes Benz.

Detectives identified Crescenciano Moreno, 34, as one of the suspects and he’s still being sought. Moreno, also known as “Chris,” is known to hang out in the Fresno and Reedley areas, said Tony Botti, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

The other suspect, 35-year-old Jorge Albert Aquino, was arrested July 6 when detectives stopped a vehicle near Herndon Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. He is being held in Fresno County Jail on robbery, drug and weapons charges. Aquino’s bail is set at $628,000.

The black Mercedes Benz used in the robbery was found, and has been returned to the dealership where it was wanted for repossession, Botti said.

Anyone with information on Moreno’s whereabouts or details about the case can contact Detective Carl Chalmers at 559-600-8174 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
