Motorized bike rider killed by medical van is identified

The rider of a motorized bicycle killed early Wednesday when he was struck by a medical van was identified as Matthew Paine, 32, of Fresno, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said.

The collision occurred at Fresno Street and Shields Avenue in central Fresno about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The crash forced closure of the intersection for several hours.

A Fresno police official said the bike rider was southbound on Fresno when he was struck by the van, which was westbound on Shields.
