A .22-caliber rifle and ammunition were seized by Fresno police Tuesday from a Bulldog gang member in central Fresno, Sgt. Brian Valles reported.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer earlier Tuesday ordered extra officers to scour the city in search of armed gang members after three gang-related muders over the Memorial Day weekend.

Valles said that officers spotted four suspects in a car near North Yosemite and East Belmont avenue about 2 p.m. and ordered one of the suspects to stop when he began to walk away as officers approached. The man, later identified as Robert Talamentez, 26, walked into a home in the 400 block of North Yosemite and closed the door. Officers determined that the other three occupants of the car were gang members on parole or probation.

Valles said officers approached Talamantez after he came out of the apartment and Talamantez said that he was on probation and was afraid of being arrested. He also admitted to discarding narcotics in the apartment. After serving a search warrant, officers recovered the rifle and ammunition and booked Talamantez into Fresno County Jail.
