Shooting kills one in Porterville; assailant remains at large
Porterville police are investigating a shooting Monday night that killed a man south of downtown.
About 8:30 p.m. police were called to the 400 block of South Main Street for shots fired and a man struck by gunfire.
When they arrived, they discovered Richard Hopwood, 34, of Porterville, in the entryway of an apartment with gunshot wounds. Police gave medical aid, but Hopwood died at the scene.
Detectives executed a search warrant for a home in the area in their effort to find the assailant.
