A Fresno man was arrested after a traffic stop Sunday in Southern California on suspicion of carjacking a woman at gunpoint in Fresno four days earlier, police said.

Detectives arrested Edward Gonzalez, 18, who was one of four men in a vehicle that was stopped by the CHP in Cathedral City, southeast of Palm Springs. Two Fresno detectives from the robbery unit traveled to Cathedral City to interview the men.

Gonzalez was identified as the suspect in a carjacking on Nov. 16. Evidence found in the vehicle connects the suspect to the crime, police said. Following his arrest, Gonzalez was transported to Fresno.

A woman was leaving work just before 7 p.m. at the Elm Dental Care building, on Elm Avenue north of Annadale Avenue, when she was approached by a young Hispanic man who displayed a handgun and demanded the car keys, police said. The suspect violently snatched the keys from the woman’s hand, jumped in the car and drove away.
