Porterville man held in attack on elderly woman

Porterville police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with an assault in October on an elderly woman, police announced Tuesday.

Cory Esteven Tapia of Porterville is being held in the Tulare County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, with bail set at $520,000, according to jail records.

Porterville police responded to the woman's home about 3 a.m. Oct. 29 for a report of an assault. The assailant broke in and assaulted the elderly resident. Investigators eventually identified Tapia as the suspect. He was arrested Nov. 22 about 6 p.m. in the 600 block of West Olive Avenue in Porterville.
