Biola crash victim killed by alleged drunken driver identified

The Fresno County coroner’s office has identified the man killed Wednesday in Biola in a crash that authorities said was caused by a repeat drunken driver. The victim was Juan Carlos Diaz-Rodriguez, 29, of Biola. He was originally reported by authorities to be a 15-year-old boy.

Diaz-Rodriguez was killed when a speeding car driven by Jose Manuel Andrade Blanco crossed into his vehicle’s path on Shaw Avenue east of Biola Avenue at and hit it head-on, the California Highway Patrol said. A 40-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman riding with Diaz-Rodriguez suffered major injuries, and a girl in the car was also hurt.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported that Andrade Blanco ran from the scene and was caught in a nearby orchard. Because he has a previous DUI conviction, authorities are recommending a murder charge in addition to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
