The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman Tuesday night who they say led deputies on a high-speed chase in a car stolen from someone parked at the Poverello House.

Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said that Christina Lopez, 35, of Fresno, was pulled over around 10 p.m. while driving a Kia Soul near Brawley and Floradora avenues. As the deputy approached her window, Lopez made a U-turn and sped away. The car began to swerve across the road, and Lopez threw a beer bottle out of the driver’s side window.

During the chase, Lopez allegedly ran a stop sign at Valentine and McKinley avenues while going around 80 mph. She eventually lost control of the car and crashed into a power pole. She was arrested shortly after.

Botti said investigators determined the car Lopez was driving was stolen from the Poverello House parking lot. She was charged with felony evading arrest and vehicle theft.
