Business Profile: The Heart Group settles into Clovis office
The Heart Group of Fresno, known as being the largest cardiology group in the Central Valley, opened a new site in Clovis last year, just north of Clovis Community Medical Center.
Dr. John G. Telles, who has been practicing cardiology for nearly 40 years, said it is the best thing that has ever happened because being next to a hospital makes doing his job more effective.
“It beats getting into your car and driving all the way through town to get to a hospital and wasting a half hour, so it definitely improves our efficiency,” Telles said. “The other thing that is really nice is being a part of a medical center because you get a little bit of a better feeling driving down and looking at the hospital and seeing all this and realizing you are a part of something big.”
Telles, who specializes in cardiac electrophysiology, the science of elucidating, diagnosing and treating the electrical activities of the heart, said the one thing that sets The Heart Group apart from other cardiology sites is it has 10 doctors working at the site who each have their own subspecialty.
“When I was trained we had to do everything because there wasn’t that much to do and we kind of learned everything as we went along,” Telles said. “Now in a training program, our guys train to do a particular field of cardiology and they feel uncomfortable coming into something where they are not going to be able to do that field, but we give them the opportunity to do that and to be able to work at the highest level of their licensure.”
Telles said the business philosophy is to create an environment where a physician will want to come and work at because, as he puts it, “patients will perceive you the way you see yourself.”
Jamie Mevi, physician liaison for The Heart Group, said one of the most important things to her in working with the business is how the physicians really care about their patients and are able to go above and beyond due to their 10-doctor crew.
“I think one of the things, too, is there is access to same-day appointments, which we are able to accommodate based on the size of our practice with 10 cardiologists and two nurse practitioners,” Mevi said. “We actually have one of the largest cardiac subspecialty teams between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, which has enabled us to meet the needs of our Clovis-area patients.”
Mevi said she looks forward to the future of The Heart Group in Clovis, as it is in the process of hiring more doctors who also specialize in specific areas of cardiology.
“I enjoy the ability to facilitate great patient care,” Mevi said. “There is a satisfaction that we all get when we make a significant difference in someone’s life.”
