Sneak peek of businesses coming to Clovis in 2016
Businesses large and small are set to open in Clovis in 2016, including two hotels, a Batteries Plus franchise and Sprouts Farmers Market.
Here’s a peek at the city’s new additions:
Batteries Plus Bulbs will open at 95 W. Shaw Ave. in the Wild West Village Shopping Center west of Minnewawa Avenue. The Green Bay, Wisconsin-based retailer sells specialty and replacement batteries and light bulbs and also offers in-store repairs for smartphones and tablets.
The store is expected to open in January, said Shawn Miller, business development manager for the City of Clovis.
La Quinta will build an 80-room hotel at 1508 Clovis Ave. in the south end of the Barnyard Shopping Center.
“They’ll be wedging it into a long, skinny piece of property,” Miller said. “So that will be interesting to see how it turns out. They’re in the plan-check phase. We’re expecting them to break ground soon.”
Once construction begins, it should take about 10 months until the La Quinta checks in its first guest, said Alan Bowles II, La Quinta’s California development director.
“It’s a beautiful design by Lee Gage Architecture in Fresno,” Bowles said. “We’re very excited about this new unit and the architect did a tremendous job.”
Marriott TownePlace Suites is set to build a 114-room hotel on the southeast corner of Shaw and Helm avenues in between the Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Express, Miller said.
That hotel is in the planning and design stage as well. Marriott officials could not be reached for comment.
CVS Pharmacy is under construction near Shaw and Minnewawa avenues, but Miller said, “I can’t imagine them opening before June.”
The Trading Post Shopping Center on the southeast corner of Clovis and Herndon Avenues will become home to Sprouts Farmers Market, Skechers, Ross Dress for Less and Pieology Pizzeria.
Sprouts, known largely for its organic inventory, will take over 28,000 square feet of space formerly occupied by Save Mart. Miller expects it to open at the end of February.
Ross, a discount department store, and Skechers, a shoe retailer, will open about the same time, Miller said.
The create-your-own-pizza restaurant Pieology, which just opened a location in Campus Pointe near the Save Mart Center, will open a second Clovis location near Sprouts.
