Senior Citizens Law Day planned for Oct. 17
Seniors interested in driving, estate planning and healthcare changes are invited to an upcoming event. The San Joaquin College of Law Alumni Association and Central California Legal Services will host Senior Citizens Law Day on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The annual event, held at San Joaquin College of Law, will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:30 and feature three seminars throughout the morning: “How does the DMV serve senior drivers?,” “Estate planning and diminished capacity: When is it too late to plan?” and “Medicare, Medi-Cal and the changes ahead under ACA.”
The seminar topics were chosen based on feedback solicited at previous events, said Faith Lisle, a SJCL alumnus and attorney at Fishman, Larsen & Callister. “These are issues we have heard about and are common concerns,” she said.
Lisle added that the event is not limited to senior citizens — their families and caregivers are welcome to attend as well.
Attendees will also be able to schedule short, private appointments with volunteer attorneys from Central California Legal Services, who will provide assistance with simple wills, power of attorney or advance health care directives. These appointments must be made in advance.
To register to attend Senior Citizens Law Day, call (559) 324-2750. To schedule an individual appointment, call Marcela Alvarez at (559) 570-1210.
Spaghetti dinner to benefit Wreaths Across America
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3225 of Clovis and Sandy’s Country Junction restaurant will host a fundraiser for Wreaths Across America, a program that honors fallen veterans by placing a holiday wreath on their graves. The local post places wreaths at three cemeteries in the Clovis Cemetery District.
From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, Sandy’s Country Junction, 532 Clovis Ave., will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner including a salad, garlic bread, a nonalcoholic drink and homemade desserts. The cost is $10 per person. It is recommended that you make reservations when you purchase your tickets. Call Sandy’s at (559) 298-1961 or Clovis VFW Post Commander August Flach at (559) 999-1948.
A collection box and sponsorship forms will be available at the restaurant’s front counter for anyone who wishes to sponsor a wreath.
