Journey to O’ahu through dance this weekend at hula showcase in Clovis

Take a trip to the island of O’ahu through two dance performances Saturday in Clovis Veterans Memorial District Auditorium.

The director and students of Hālau Hula I Ka Lā, a local hula dance school, will perform 28 individual hula presentations depicting a tour of the island of O’ahu, ‘Iolani Palace and the history of the last reigning monarchs of Hawai’i.

Both shows, one at 1:30 p.m. and one at 6 p.m., will include students of all ages, live musicians, percussion and Hawaiian chanting.

“Although our members are diverse in ethnicity, it’s amazing to see, hear and feel how our respect for the Hawaiian culture and hula can bring people together.” said director Joydee Vicencio-Padua “’Aloha from O’ahu’ is a show that allows us to share the values of kindness, unity, pleasantness, humility and patience with our community, letting them know that the Aloha Spirit IS alive in our little piece of paradise that is the Central Valley.”
