With lights dancing behind him to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Alex Michalski got down on one knee in front of about 40 friends and family members — and a public crowd on Santa Claus Lane in Clovis — and proposed to Danielle Ybarra, his girlfriend of about 4 years.
As “Danielle, will you marry me?” lit up on the Cosmic Color Ribbon tree on the front lawn of Deb and Terry Toews’ house, Danielle said “yes.”
“Even I wasn’t expecting what they did,” Michalski said of the Toews’ participation. He had asked the organizers of Santa Claus Lane a couple of weeks prior if he could propose in front of their house and together they worked out a date — Dec. 4, 2015 — and a plan. “It was so big, I was as shocked as Danielle was.”
Nearly a year later, on Nov. 19, the couple tied the knot.

“It was perfect,” Michalski said, “I couldn’t see myself marrying anyone better than her.”
At a wedding reception decorated in an eggplant, champagne gold and ivory color scheme, and where all of the groomsmen wore Jordans sneakers, it was Danielle’s turn to surprise her husband.
“She sang to me at the wedding,” Michalski said. “I was so in shock; I didn’t think she would do that.”
Danielle’s song choice perfectly summed up their proposal and wedding: “A Night To Remember.”
