Visalia man dies of injures from August collision
A Visalia man died Thursday at a Fresno hospital, one month after suffering major injuries when a car hit him as he pushed a disabled vehicle out of traffic.
Police said around 9 p.m. Aug. 2, Joey Ruiz, 41, was pushing a disabled vehicle out of traffic on eastbound Walnut Avenue when he was struck by an oncoming 2001 Ford F-150 driven by Elizabeth Smith, 28.
Following that collision, Ruiz was then struck by a 2005 Honda driven by a 17-year-old girl from Visalia.
Ruiz was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for major head and internal injuries. He died in treatment at Community Regional Medical Center on Thursday.
Visalia police said Friday the cause of the crash was still under investigation.
