Fire destroys Lindsay packing shed
A large, wooden packing shed in Lindsay that was 50 to 70 years old has been destroyed by fire.
Firefighters from several cities were called to battle the blaze. Debris continued to smoldere as of mid-afternoon Friday.
The cause is not known, but welding from the previous day is suspected, Fire Chief Chris Hughes said. Oranges in storage bins were ruined by smoke.
About 1 a.m. Friday, the Lindsay Fire Department answered a fire alarm at Suntreat Packing and Shipping Co. where sprinklers had activated.
Firefighters put out fire in several places, but it had spread between the first floor and the roof of the basement, and the floor was heating and sagging.
Assisting fire crews came from the Tulare County Fire Department, Cal Fire, Porterville, Woodlake, Tulare, Farmersville and Visalia.
