The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified Los Angeles residents Maria Del Carmen Castaneda, 47, and Bernice Ramos, 15, as the victims of a traffic crash along Interstate 5 near Los Banos on Monday, spokesman Tony Botti said Thursday.

The victims were passengers in a 2003 Ford Expedition that was traveling south at 70 mph near California Avenue when a back tire blew out and the vehicle overturned, the California Highway Patrol said. The victims were not wearing seat belts and were thrown out of the vehicle. They were declared dead at the scene.

Other passengers in the car were identified as Rosa Villegas, 31, Rocio Ibanez, 20, and Enrique Ibanez, 18, all residents of Los Angeles, the CHP said. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.

Also Thursday, the Coroner’s Office identified Stephen Johnson III, 5, of Fresno as the victim of an Aug. 5 drowning at a home in the 3800 block of North First Street in central Fresno.
