Man killed when struck by Amtrak identified

A man killed July 29 when he was hit by an Amtrak train near Belmont Avenue and Diana Street in central Fresno was identified as Clifford Williams, 47, of Fresno.

The conductor of the train told Fresno police he could see the man crossing the tracks and sounded his horn; when the man did not get off the tracks, the train braked but it could not stop in time.

The man suffered significant injuries. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died at 4:25 p.m.
