Central Fresno home damaged by attic fire

An attic fire at a home in central Fresno Sunday took firefighters more than an hour to extinguish as hot weather prompted the Fresno Fire Department to call in extra units for relief, fire spokesman Hector Vasquez said.

The fire was reported about 3:36 p.m. at a home in the 2100 block of Harrison Street, near Palm and Clinton avenues. Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attic, Vasquez said.

More than three dozen firefighters were dispatched to battle the fire or relieve first-responders under the department’s heat-stress protocol, Vasquez said. Sunday’s high temperature in Fresno was 104.

The fire was brought under control about 5 p.m., he said. No one was injured. The cause is still unknown.
