Motorcyclist killed in solo crash near Squaw Valley

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday after the vehicle went off the road in a solo crash west of Squaw Valley, the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports of a crash on Highway 63, just south of Highway 180, were received around 5:02 p.m., CHP Sgt. Jeff Cipolla said. Officers arrived and found that the victim had gone off the road, through a fence and into branches.

Paramedics were called and pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Cipolla said. The coroner’s office was en route to retrieve the body. No additional information about the victim was immediately available.

Highway 63 was briefly closed, but one lane was reopened to traffic, Cipolla said. Highway 180 was unaffected by the crash.
