Bright light across western sky causes panic

A bright light seen across the sky over Fresno on Wednesday night prompted phone calls to the National Weather Service Center in Hanford from residents in the Valley, Meteorologist Dan Harty said.

About 9:40 p.m., many on the West Coast saw the streak of light, which led to speculation of what it might be.

Harty said there was no official confirmation about what the object was. Some on Twitter speculated it was a meteor.

“It was definitely moving too slow to be a meteor,” Harty said.

Harty added that some people believed the bright light to be a Chinese rocket previously launched.

The National Weather Service in Hanford has not released an official statement on the occurrence.
