Five people injured in vehicle collision near Porterville
Five people suffered minor to major injuries in a vehicle collision Saturday morning near Porterville, the California Highway Patrol said.
Mikayaly Cabias, 21, of Las Vegas, was driving a 2015 Kia west on Avenue 128, approaching Road 208, around 9:25 a.m. while carrying three passengers, the CHP said. At the same time, Cheyenne Mason, 23, of Springville, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet, south on Road 208, approaching Avenue 128.
Cabias drove the Kia into the intersection and directly into the path of the Chevrolet, the CHP said. The front of the Chevrolet collided into the right rear of the Kia.
Maeganne Cabias, 19, of Las Vegas, was an unrestrained passenger in the Kia and was thrown out of the vehicle during the crash, the CHP said. She suffered major injuries.
The driver, who suffered minor injures, and passengers of the Kia, including Fema Cabias, 24, of Porterville, suffering moderate injures, and Brandie Tomas, 21, of Las Vegas, suffering minor injuries, were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia for treatment.
Mason was taken to Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville for treatment, the CHP said. She suffered moderate injuries.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash, the CHP said. The collision remains under investigation.
