Five people, including child, rescued from Kings River near Piedra
Five people, including a child, were rescued when they were stranded on a small island in the Kings River near Piedra on Sunday evening, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies received a rescue request on the Kings River near the 25000 block of North Elwood Avenue around 7:20 p.m., as the group had no life jackets and couldn’t swim safely to the riverbank due to swift currents, Lt. Ron Hayes said. Four rescue boat units arrived to the scene and rescued the group off the island around 8:10 p.m.
Paramedics were stationed at the scene as deputies checked the rescued group for any signs of heat exhaustion or other issues, Hayes said.
