Storm system brings increased fire danger to Sierra in Tulare County

A storm system will bring low relative humidity, gusty winds and increased wildfire danger Sunday to the Sierra Nevada in Tulare County, the National Weather Service said.

The humidity in the mountains is expected to be in the single digits for a 7-10 hour period, and combined with high temperatures and wind gusts between 35-40 mph, will create an elevated fire danger, said Jim Dudley, a meteorologist with the weather service in Hanford.

“Under these conditions, fire can get going really fast,” Dudley said.

The weather conditions in the mountains will improve after Sunday with the humidity expected to climb back into the double digits.
