Teen girl killed in Kings River boating accident

A 14-year-old girl from Southern California who was being towed on an inner tube on the Kings River on Saturday was fatally injured when she struck a tree on the shoreline, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident, which happened shortly after 3 p.m., came after the boat towing the girl was making a turn in an area southeast of the intersection of East Rose and East Floral avenues.

Deputies and emergency medical personnel came to her aid at Lindy’s Landing and Campground, and then she was transported to a local hospital, where she died, the sheriff’s office said.

Her name was not immediately available Saturday.

The boat driver was a male relative who also was from Southern California, the sheriff’s office said. He was cooperative with investigators and not facing any criminal charges as of Saturday.
